My Final Project~Christmas Activities Website

I finally uploaded my 'Christmas Activities Website'. This website aims to understand how much the students have learned after completing the 'Christmas around the World WebQuest' and reading the information of 'The Symbols and Traditions of Christmas' and 'Christmas Vocabulary' on the links I provided.

These extension activities are designed for 6 graders at elementary schools with intermediate English proficiency levels. They are designed to accompany the
'Christmas around the World WebQuest'. Both WebQuest and Activities Website can be used for these target learners. They can also be incorporated to other subjects such as Arts, Technology and Social Science.

Here is my 'Christmas Activities Website':

Hi Jennifer,

I really love the way you put introduction, instructions and conclusion separately. Thinking outside the box, right? You also clearly state the purpose of the creation of this website and how to use it. Thus, teachers can use it effectively. The instructions on how to do each activity are very clear so that students will know exactly what they are supposed to do.

Your website is definitely attractive and colourful with lots of cute graphics. This can attract a lot of interest from young students. I found that your HP activities are very interesting and fun to do. It is a good idea to put the Christmas vocabulary into the website so that students can use them and understand the gist of the texts. It is significant that allowing students to visit the related websites and read texts before doing the activities can provide students with opportunities to improve their language skills, such as reading skills. I also really like the additional links that students can enjoy more to explore about Christmas around the world.

However, I found that the HP activities may put much focus on vocabulary. In other words, the website may need to add a variety to the activities.

Overall, it is clear that your website has achieved its purpose and effective. I’m sure your students must enjoy doing the activities you have created. Well done! Hope to see more websites from you.

Hi Jeniffer
Let me first congratulate you for your successful website. It seems clear that you spend sometime and you thought a lot before producing such successful activities. Having done all the activities I was really impressed of your nice website. The activities were really successful, the reading sites are also helpful and can help students to do the tasks. The instructions and hints can also scaffold students and assist them do the tasks. In general the layout , the design , the pedagogical ideas are well done. However,in my opinion I would like to give you some suggestions which might get you consider some aspects of your website:
First of all,I would say it would be better to give a button called home in each activity ,so that students can navigate easily from tasks to the home page, or buttons to link a task to the next one.
Second, In giving a title for each activity it would be better to give a title for each activity that also attract young learners. For example, Discover Christmas for vocabulary activity.
Third, I think it would be better to configure tasks with shuffle in configuration while producing the activities in the hot potatoes. This can help students to find the activity items in different order when they do the task again and again.
Fourth, There is a minor spelling mistake in the matching task " Scroll down and match".
Fifth, I would personally prefer to give students in year 6 a vocabulary activities with pictures because they are still young and this can attract students do the task better and make it more meaningful, i.e. you can still give them sentences but accompanying with pictures.
Sixth, In cross word tasks, I think you gave some times a question and the next question will answer it e.g In cross 2 and down 3 , the same for 1 down and 4 across. This will give students high guessing chances rather than challenging them do the task.It would be better to be consistent, either sentences or questions e.g it would be better to rephrase 7 down sentence and change the question which start with who into a sentence.
Overall, these are suggestions in order to improve this nice and lovely website.Wish you successful result and have a nice time in Tasmania.

Cheers

Hi Jennifer

You did very well in this project. You create a very attractive and colourful website for grade 6 students to learn more about X'mas issues. Your students need to read 2 websites/articles in order to finish all the activities. They are so relaxed and felt no pressure to learn. For sure, they learn by doing and by fun.
The purpose of your project is to learn X'mas vocabularies, is that correct? There are 3 vocabulary learning activities. Clearly, your students will obtain high marks in these activities. Your instructions are very clear and your students locate the keywords without failure. But why do you design 2 crossword exercises? I think 1 is enough. And you haven't created some MIX activities yet in this website, why? It would be better if you could design 1 or 2 mix exercises instead of the cross.

Overall, I'm happy to visit your website, there are some interesting articles to read and many moving objects to catch my eyes and very user friendly. All the materials are well-selected and highly foused on your purpose (vocabulary learning and reading tasks). As other classmates said, a conclusion section is one of the bonus points of your project!

A lovely product, I like it very much!

Cheers
